What is Makko Ho?

Makko Ho is a Japanese stretching art created more than 70 years ago by Wataru Nagai, who although suffering a terrible stroke, was able to regain full use of his body through the stretching and bowing movements he created In Japanese, Makko Ho means, "to face forward," and combines breathing, stretching, and special body work into a physical philosophy to become a healthier and more courageous person.  Training focuses on Hara Kokyuho, abdominal breathing, four specific positional stretches to
improve circulation and open the body's meridian channels, and Hodo Taiso, special techniques that challenge students to improve the circulation and well being of another.  Makko Ho is practiced daily by thousands of Japanese, who are devoted to its health benefits and core teachings based on the balance of mind and body.  It's a perfect fit for anyone looking to improve flexibility and circulation whether older, injured, or simply searching  for something new.  The teacher, Tomoko Horikawa, has been a practitioner for 10 years, is fully licensed through the Makko Ho Kyokai of Japan, and is one of only three instructors in the United States.
